MOHO DESIGN winners of a prestigious international - Design Management Europe Award (DME Award) in the ‘New comers’ category.

The DME Gala Ceremony took place at the Red Dot Museum in Essen on Thursday, 22 November of 2007.

The red dot design museum is inspirational. It displays the world's largest and one of the most diverse exhibitions of contemporary design. Over 4,000 square metres of floorspace provide a showcase for around 1,400 products from across the globe - all of them winners of the red dot and DME Award. And all that within the breathtaking architecture of the former Zollverein colliery. Over 120,000 visitors each year can explore all the areas of daily life, such as kitchen utensils, furniture, cars, office furnishings, fashion accessories or tools.


On the 22nd of November, Moho Design became the only Polish company to receive the award for successful design management (DME) in one of the most prestigious places in the world connected with design – the Red Dot museum in Essen.

The DME Award Gala Ceremony followed speeches by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, President of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and creator of the Red Dot method, Reinhard Büscher Head of Unit, Innovation Policy Development Enterprise and Industry DG, European Commission and Oliver Wittke, Minister of Construction and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The DME Gala Ceremony was attended by 350 representatives of awarded companies, agents, organizations, institutions and VIP guests. Receiving the third place in the ‘New Comers’ category Moho Design shared the stage together with German company Bionade and Austrian company Justincase Trading. One other Polish design practice Puff Buff was awarded an honourable mention in the same category as Moho Design.

All awarded projects are currently presented at the exhibition in the Red dot design museum running until 30 December.

The Design Management Europe Award is part of the EU project ADMIRE (Award for Design Management Innovating and Reinforcing Enterprises) under the patronage of Gunter Verheugen, Vice – President of the European Commision.

DME Award in figures:

  • 18 companies from all over Europe received an Award
  • There were 6 different categories: large, medium, small and micro companies along with the newcomers and non-profit organisations/non-governmental organisations categories
  • In total - 240 companies, institutions and organisations from 21 European countries participated at the DME Award’s (Design Management Europe Award), among them 12 from Poland
  • 19 partners from twelve European countries, included among them a Polish Agent – Silesian Castle of Art and Enterprise in Cieszyn, have taken part in the preparation stage.
  • The winners were determined with the help of a three-phase evaluation procedure, the so-called Red Dot method.

1. In the first stage, the Project Partners and Agents nominated more than 200 companies to take part in the 2007 DME Award competition.
2. As participants of the competition, the companies and organisations agreed to answer a questionnaire and take part in interview sessions on design and management, investment and innovation, market share and brand awareness.
3. The final requirement was a presentation from each participant later evaluated by internationally renowned experts.

Among the prize-winners are companies and institutions from Germany (Loewe AG, Festo,BSH Bosch and Siemens Hausgeräte, Walter Knoll, Bionade), Finland (Ivanahelsinki), France (Beau & Bien), the UK (Feonic), Luxemburg (d’Stater Muséeën, Luxemburg, Centrale des Auberges de Jeunesse Luxembourgeoises), Austria (Justincase Trading), Spain (Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de La Roja, Santa & Cole, Chocolat Faktory), Turkey (T-Box) and also Moho Design from Poland.
